Position Description

This position will run HCCA’s project, Improving Care for People with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

This short-term research project will:

  • Document consumer experiences of COPD care in the ACT
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, and
  • Make recommendations to guide the development of a consumer-centred, integrated model of COPD care in the ACT.

Remuneration

This is an exciting contract position for four months (March to June 2021). It is offered at SCHADS Level 6 (full time), or as a consultancy opportunity for an independent contractor.

Your remuneration is based on Community Services Worker Level 6 (pay point 1), which is currently $45.77 per hour plus superannuation. The primary place of work for HCCA staff members is the HCCA office in Hackett, ACT.

For a contractor:

The cost of delivering this research project is $33,000 (+GST).

  • Project Initiation (30%)
  • Delivery of Stage 2 (30%)
  • Delivery of Stage 3 (40%)

Payments will be made within seven days of receiving the invoice, following HCCA Executive Director approval.

It is expected that a contractor will work externally.

The project

The position contributes to the work of HCCA’s Policy and Research team, and Consumer and Community Participation team. The role is supervised by the Executive Director.

This project will identify opportunities to improve the care offered to people with COPD in the ACT.

It has three stages:

Stage 1. Scope the current approach to COPD care in the ACT and identify national and international models of best practice.

Stage 2. Interview consumers about their experiences of COPD care, the characteristics of care that makes a difference to them, and opportunities to improve care.

Stage 3. Analyse data and present findings in a report that includes recommendations to guide the development of a consumer-centred and integrated model of COPD care in the ACT. The final report must be delivered to HCCA by Friday, 25 June 2021.

Selection criteria

  1. Demonstrated research skills including ability to design and conduct qualitative research, collect, store and analyse data, and prepare research reports.
  2. Track record in conducting research projects, especially in short timeframes.
  3. Highly developed oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of health policy and quality improvement opportunities related to consumer-centred and/or integrated care.
  5. Computer literacy including experience with MS Office.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Relevant tertiary or other recognised qualifications.

It is a requirement of this position to have Working with Vulnerable People Registration.

It is desirable to have an ACT Drivers License.
