More about the role

The role of the Manager of Occupational Therapy Services North is to work within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to lead and develop high quality efficient and effective Occupational Therapy services which are client centred and evidence based. The Manager of Occupational Therapy Services North actively develops and promotes the desired culture of HammondCare Occupational Therapy staff, by ensuring all interactions, documentation and communication is conducted in a manner which is aligned to the mission.

The essence of this role:

  • To lead the planning, management and delivery of Occupational Therapy Services (including Occupational Therapy, Recreational Activities Officer and Occupational Therapy Assistant staff) in a manner that support the provision of effective and efficient Occupational Therapy services to clients and their carers.
  • Participate as a member of the HammondCare team and the local Allied Health leadership team in the application of the organisation’s Mission and values to the pursuit of its objectives in a client centre, continuous quality improvement work environment.
  • Assisting the Acting Deputy Director of Nursing, HammondCare Health and Hospitals North in conjunction with Service Directors and NUMs, to determine the needs of each clinical unit and to plan and provide an appropriate level of Occupational Therapy staffing to meet those needs.
  • Provide leadership, direction and management to the occupational therapy team in the performance of their duties and the provision of the highest standards of quality care to improve quality of life.

Please note whilst the focus in this role will primarily be palliative care, we are happy to consider candidates from sub-acute, rehab or other clinical settings.

About you

  • Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy and registration as an Occupational Therapist with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in the provision of Occupational Therapy services in a Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and/or within a sub-acute setting. Experience across inpatient and outpatient/ community settings would be desirable
  • Demonstrated experience supervising an Occupational Therapy team.
  • Demonstrated management competencies including service planning, resource management and leading staff
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Health and Aged Care Sectors including funding and policy protocols, accreditation and industrial legislation.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated organisation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experienced in operating effectively in a multi-site environment.
  • A current drivers licence and safe driving record.
  • Willingness to travel between HammondCare’s sites and services.
  • Strong administrative and computer skills.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
