Role Purpose

Our Community Outreach function in Bendigo provides support to those who are experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness or persons sleeping rough by applying an assertive outreach approach and Housing First principles through a case management framework, where clients are supported through person-centred and trauma-informed practices. In the position of Program Coordinator - Community Outreach you will lead the management and coordination of the community outreach programs, ensuring exceptional delivery of high-quality services, while adhering to financing guidelines, limitations and record keeping.

As a passionate community focused leader, your responsibilities will include:

  • Development, oversight and continuous improvement of the triage function, to identify and respond to the needs and vulnerability of presenting clients, which will include ensuring an appropriate level of assessment occurs, so clients are provided with suitable outcomes in a timely manner and within the funding agreement
  • Guide and coach the team to consistently deliver quality service and outcomes to clients, demonstrating a deep commitment to a trauma-informed approach with an understanding and responsiveness to clients’ trauma experiences, while fostering a safe and empathetic environment.
  • Establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships with relevant organisations to enhance outcomes for individuals and families in the community and surrounding local government areas, including Victoria Police, healthcare providers, other social service agencies and community leaders
  • Identify potential safety hazards and risks associated with outreach activities by providing key information to the continuous improvement of safety protocols
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leader to maintain program budgets, including the creation of detailed budget plans, forecasting expenses, and ensuring operational and staffing costs are within budget

To successfully lead in our Community Outreach function, you will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of homelessness services and community support systems
  • Proven experience in leading and coaching teams
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • An ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external partners
  • Experience with CRM systems and data management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Social Work or Community / Human Services is preferable, or equivalent experience

This role is subject to a satisfactory National Police History check and Working with Children Check. Applicants who have lived overseas for 12 months or longer in the past 10 years must provide an international police check.
