Havelock Housing Association is one of Canberra’s largest and most successful social housing providers. We offer affordable and accessible housing options for people on low incomes and people living with disabilities. We have an expertise in understanding the needs of people from diverse backgrounds and in providing enhanced tenancy support for people living with disabilities and people who are socially disadvantaged.

Reporting to the Executive Manager, the Performance and Development Team consists of a Community Development (CD) Manager, a CD Coordinator (Sport and Physical Activity), a Tenancy Support Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant.

The Role

The Community Development Manager will:

  • Be responsible for guiding the implementation and delivery of a quality Community Development and Social Inclusion program across all Havelock Housing Association’s housing types.
  • Provide day to day advice and support other team members to implement and further develop the various strands of our CD program.
  • Be responsible for implementing ongoing activities outlined in our CD Strategy, including monitoring quality and reporting on outputs and outcomes.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the team to implement activities including those funded under various grants, our general CD program and any new initiatives tailored to meet to emerging needs and opportunities. 
  • Support the Executive Manager in reporting on the impact of the CD program overall to funding bodies, and on reporting internally and externally to Government and other stakeholders.
  • Liaise regularly with program participants, partners and related support services to ensure the high-quality delivery of program activities.

Selection Criteria Essential:

  • Ability to work with kindness and empathy and demonstrated experience and skills in working effectively with vulnerable people, and those with high and complex needs
  • The successful candidate will be required to hold a valid, up to date Working with Vulnerable People Card (ACT)
  • At least 3 years’ direct experience in Community Development and Social Inclusion program design and delivery
  • Demonstrated strategic stakeholder engagement and partnership / networking skills
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, research and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated organising, reporting and project management skills
  • Committed team player, flexible and adaptable

Selection Criteria Desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the ACT housing and homelessness sector, and experience in the social housing sector is a definite advantage
  • Experience working within the Community Development sector in the ACT is an advantage
  • High level IT skills including Microsoft Office

The Benefits

The salary range will be aligned with Level 5 of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award.  The pay point to be determined depending on qualifications and experience.  Additionally, as a registered Charity generous Salary Sacrificing benefits are available for Havelock Housing employees.
