HACSU is Tasmania’s largest union of workers, campaigning for economic, industrial and social justice. We represent workers in public and private health, aged care, and community and disability services across the state.

We’re looking for an energetic and passionate person who is excited about social justice and trying new things to join our expanding communications team, where you’ll produce content and develop digital strategies to empower working people.

Responsibilities:

On any given day, your work may include – but not be limited to – the following:

  • Creating digital content and strategies to support industrial and political campaigns
  • Designing flyers, posters, stickers, and merchandise
  • Developing and actioning member growth and retention strategies
  • Creating social media, email and SMS content for members
  • Drafting written material for a variety of audiences – e.g. members, delegates, supporters, and campaign targets
  • Capturing and editing member photos and videos
  • Managing and monitoring HACSU social media accounts and coming up with strategies to engage and grow our audiences

You will be someone who:

  • Has a commitment to the Health and Community Services Union and the trade union movement
  • Has experience in managing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) – bonus points for experience using them for campaign, and/or supporter growth and retention purposes
  • Has proven experience in digital marketing campaigns
  • Has excellent written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling stories and translate complex information into snappy and engaging content
  • Understands the digital media environment
  • Can capture HACSU’s voice and personality in written content
  • Has skills and experience using the Adobe suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) to create print and digital content
  • Has experience shooting and editing video content using Adobe Premier Pro or equivalent
  • Embraces new technologies and strategies to deliver outcomes for HACSU members
  • Can multitask and prioritise workflow in a busy environment
  • Can work with a range of people, including elected officials, organisers, members, and delegates
  • Has creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality
  • Takes instructions and works independently on a range of tasks and projects, taking initiative doing whatever it takes to get the job done
  • Is a team player who is always bringing creative ideas to the table

Bonus points for:

  • Experience working on issues campaigns, and an understanding of how to use strategic communications to further campaign goals
  • Understanding of HACSU’s membership and the union’s target audiences – including online audiences
  • A sound understanding of the Tasmanian and Australian political landscapes
  • Experience working in the media, communications and/or campaigns field, preferably in a trade union, political or not-for-profit organisation
  • Experience using iMIS CRM
  • Familiarity with digital advertising platforms including Google Ads and Facebook Ads Manager
