In order to assist residents to prepare for future bushfires, we are looking to hire a Bushfire Resilience Labourer in the Southern Highlands on a casual basis.

Habitat for Humanity Australia (HFHA) is working in the Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands to help people reduce bushfire risk and get ready for future bushfires. The Bushfire Resilience Labourer will work with others on bushfire resilience activities such as clearing vegetation, clearing gutters, minor repairs and maintenance with direct supervision of site supervisors. Successful applicants for these roles will be required to be fully vaccinated against Covid 19.

Essential Selection Criteria

• Interest in bushfire resilience and community support work
• Willingness to work in an outdoor bush environment including during wet and hot weather
• Physically fit and able to undertake physical work required in this job
• Highly motivated, positive, punctual and reliable
• Ability to work and communicate well with the team
• Unrestricted driver’s licence, ability to drive a ute or van with trailer and willingness to travel
• Construction White Card (or willingness to obtain) and knowledge of site safety

Purpose

The Bushfire Resilience Labourer undertakes a range of functions including:

• Clear unwanted vegetation and cutting back regrowth
• Work constructively with other staff and support other team members
• Work at multiple sites in the greater Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and surrounding areas
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions including rain and hot weather
• Use and look after tools, equipment and materials efficiently and effectively
• Drive a ute / van and tow the trailer
• Work in a safe manner and contribute to a safe working environment
• Other tasks to support the efficient and effective operation of the program

• The successful applicant will need to provide evidence of a clear criminal history and adhere to HFHA's Code of Conduct, policies and procedures including the Child Protection Policy.  
• The applicant will need a satisfactory driving history and may need to provide details of their driving history as part of the application process.
• The applicant should live in or near the Wollondilly and/or Wingecarribee areas.
