Goulburn Valley Centre Against Sexual Assault (GVCASA) is a program of GV Health and is one of 15 Centres Against Sexual Assault that operate throughout Victoria providing a range of services for those impacted by sexual assault. The GVCASA team is growing in response to increased local demand for sexual assault support services.

About the role

The GVCASA Counsellor Advocate plays an integral role within our team, and works within a trauma informed practice framework to provide a range of therapeutic, counselling and advocacy services to those who have been impacted by sexual assault. Our clients include women, children, young people, men and people who identify as gender diverse; a large proportion of our clients are children and young people; so if you have experience working in a trauma related industry with children or young people, or adults, you are encouraged to apply. The role also includes the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of community education and professional training to students, teachers, parents and community and professional groups to raise awareness of sexual assault. You will be provided with regular supervision, training and professional development opportunities. This role is 48hrs per fortnight.

The main office is located in Shepparton, but services are provided across the West Hume region; applicants who live in Wallan, Seymour, Numurkah, Cobram, Shepparton and surrounds, are encouraged to apply, as we have outreach locations throughout the area.

We are looking for an experienced professional with the following skills/attributes:

The impacts of sexual assault can be complex; working in this sector can be challenging but tremendously rewarding. We are looking for a professional who understands this and is motivated and ready to join our committed and respected team. We hold our clients at the centre of everything we do, and value a commitment to inclusiveness, fairness and equity. The successful applicant will possess:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Psychiatric Registered Nurse, Counselling, or other relevant profession; with a minimum of 4 years’ experience.
  • A commitment to making a meaningful difference to those affected by sexual assault, & possess excellent communication, decision making, advocacy & negotiation skills.
  • An understanding of the issues surrounding sexual assault, and impact on victim survivors.
