Guthrie House is a community-based drug and alcohol support and transitional service for women involved in the criminal justice system and their accompanying children. On average 70% of our clients are First Nations people.

Based on Gadigal land in Sydney’s Inner West, we currently have an opportunity for you to join our dynamic team as a casual Residential Support Worker you will advocate and work with women involved with the criminal justice system as well as out of home care and/or child protection services in our after hours program.

This role is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

This role is to cover leave vacancies within the organisation.

The salary is per the SCHADS Award 2010 – Level 3.3 with 25% casual loading

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications in a human service-related field or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team.
  • High level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop mutual respect, empathy and cooperation with residents.

Desirable Criteria

  • At least 1 years’ experience working with women in a residential setting.
  • Experience working with women involved in the criminal justice system and women with lived experience of drug dependence.

COVID-19

In the context of COVID-19 we are continuing to deliver residential services face to face. We have infection control policies in place and a Business Continuity Plan and Safety Plan that are regularly reviewed.

Under the current Public Health Orders all workers of Guthrie House are classified as health workers and are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
