Position Description

We are presently seeking suitably qualified applicants to join the board of Guthrie House in the role of Non-Executive Directors. The Board provides guidance and oversight to the organisation and sets the strategic direction of Guthrie House to ensure it continues play a vital role in supporting some of the most vulnerable women in our society.

About the Organisation

Guthrie House Co-operative Incorporated is a not-for-profit residential transitional service for women, located in Enmore in Sydney’s Inner West.

Guthrie House provides a unique service which supports women with a current involvement in the criminal justice system in their transition back into the community. The women who come to Guthrie House may include women on release from a correctional centre on a community-based sentence such as a parole order, probation order, drug court order or intensive correction order. Many of the women also have complex health needs and a history of alcohol and/or drug abuse.

Our service provides provide programs and transitional support for up to 10 women at a time, support women and children and prioritizing pregnant women, Aboriginal women and women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our clients are on average 60-70% First Nations women per annum. We have targeted support programs, Cultural Care Plans and First Nations women on our Team and Board of Directors

Guthrie House is funded by Department of Communities and Justice - Corrective Services NSW and Specialist Homelessness Services, NSW Health, and the Department of Health.

Selection Criteria

Applicants with a background in any of the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

  • TREASURER - Finance and Accounting
  • Fundraising and Marketing
  • Child Protection Policy
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy

All applicants must possession a passion for social justice and supporting some of the most vulnerable women in our society.
