Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is the largest provider of life changing orientation and mobility services for people with sight loss in Australia. We have a trusted and recognised brand and deliver thousands of free programs to clients across NSW and the ACT each year.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Client Practitioner – Therapy Dog Services to join our team, at Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. This is a full time fixed term (12 months) position based in Glossodia, but will include driving long distances with overnight stays required when traveling to regional areas in order to deliver programs and services to individuals and organisations within the community.

The responsibilities of this role include, among others:

  • Assessing and matching our dogs to clients/families to ensure optimal client experience and dog welfare;
  • Educating and training clients/families in husbandry, care and behaviour management of Therapy dogs;
  • Planning activities for families/clients, ensuring regular communication and guidance;
  • Providing regular reporting and updates to the relevant manager regarding the Therapy Dog program;
  • Monitoring and reporting on dog and puppy welfare through observation and basic medical check-ups; and
  • Providing support to other programs and team members to fulfil requirements of programs and client needs.

To be considered for this opportunity you must demonstrate:

  • Completion of a relevant tertiary qualification in either social work, disability studies or dog training and behaviours;
  • Experience and confidence in dog handling;
  • Experience in or willingness to learn dog training and behaviour;
  • Accurate observation and confident decision-making skills;
  • Ability to anticipate, support and resolve complex client needs;
  • Commitment to excellence in customer service, and a proven track record of strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Computer literacy skills in Microsoft applications and the Internet;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to project plan and meet deadlines; and
  • Possession of a current NSW drivers licence with a good driving history.
