The Good Samaritan Inn delivers crisis and transitional accommodation and support to victim survivors of family violence and women experiencing homelessness in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. GSI delivers these services through the provision of supported accommodation and outreach services.

THE POSITION:

The position will be responsible for providing high quality intensive case management to women, young people and children who access our family violence services. The role requires supporting clients who have experienced family violence and homelessness and are residing in crisis and transitional housing facilities, by delivering structured services utilising GSI’s Therapeutic Support Model, a strength-based outcomes focus and the Multi Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM).

The key function of the Case Manager:

  • Provide crisis and support responses to women and children who have experienced family violence
  • Specialist knowledge of immigration issues (including VISA knowledge and expertise), experience working with Non-Permanent resident clients and extensive knowledge of the legislative system related to non-permanent residents.
  • Work with women to determine their options, identify relevant service pathways and advocate for required supportive responses from the service system
  • Provide a Case Management response to all women and children including the following: initial risk assessment and ongoing management of risk, development and actioning of case plans, referral to appropriate external services to ensure a realistic, long term accommodation and support plan is in place prior to women and families exiting the service
  • Provides professional responses to refugee lived experience and Non-Permanent resident clients
  • Provides extensive knowledge of the Centrelink system and payments available to non-permanent residents.
  • Use evidence-based approaches to identify family violence risk and child and family vulnerability, drawing on specialist experience of working with vulnerable families.
  • Provide high quality Family Violence services inclusive of those who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse, and or as LGBTIQ
  • Report and work with authorities such as Child Protection and the Police to ensure compliance with any legislative requirements in order to keep women and children safe.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION YOU WILL NEED:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, or related degree level with substantial experience in family services. Qualification or relevant experience must be in line with the mandatory minimum qualifications requirements for specialist family violence practitioners.
  • Advanced understanding of relevant legislation and practice frameworks relating to family violence practice, including but not limited to the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS), Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) and the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM).
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of immigration issues, VISA’s, and experience working with Non-Permanent resident clients. Extensive knowledge of the Centrelink system and payments available to non-permanent residents
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in the provision of Case Management, Specifically with women from a migrant, refugee and culturally diverse backgrounds experiencing family violence and homelessness.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the issues involved in working with women from a multicultural background, including intersectional factors impacting women and children affected by family violence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of risk management, intervention and case management skills, within a family violence
  • A strong awareness of the life cycle stages in a family violence context, including social, historical, political, legal, cultural and organisational/systems impacts on victim survivors and perpetrators of family violence.
  • Understanding of feminist theory and contemporary family violence practice including the gendered nature of violence, social justice principles, crisis intervention and working with trauma.

This position will require the ability to work across Monday-Sunday at multiple sites. The candidate will be required to be flexible in regards to working hours which will be influenced by the specific demands of the position.
