The Greens NSW are looking for a dynamic and energetic Campaign Assistant to assist the Grayndler Federal Election Campaign. This is a busy 3 day a week, part-time role, running from February 2022 until one week after the Federal election (which could be held at any time between up until 21 May 2022. You will work very closely with the Greens candidate for Grayndler, Rachael Jacobs.

The Campaign Assistant will be working with an active and successful grassroots campaign team. We have 5 local councillors and two state MPs, Jenny Leong (Newtown) and Jamie Parker (Balmain). In 2019, it was the Greens NSW highest vote in the House of Representatives.

About the Greens

The Greens Party movement is based on the four pillars of social equity and economic justice, ecological sustainability, grassroots democracy, and peace, nonviolence and disarmament. Greens parties across the world share these same principles and values.

The Grayndler Campaign is supported by four local Greens Groups – Port Jackson, Petersham-Newtown, Marrickville and Ashfield.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Campaign Assistant must be a generalist with skills in a variety of areas. The role breaks down to four essential parts and the proportions will vary depending on how the campaign unfolds.

  1. Candidate support - Managing the candidate’s schedule in collaboration, organising logistical support at campaign events; researching and preparing issue briefs as required
  2. Field Campaigning – training and supporting volunteers in engaging and persuading voters through door-knocking or phonebanking. Must be familiar with the Greens online systems (gVIRS, ROCKeT, CiviCRM)
  3. Digital campaigning – supporting the Digital Campaigner in producing and delivering social media and online campaigning
  4. Campaign logistics – coordinating election day and polling booths, and other campaign events

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. A commitment to The Greens and to advancing Greens policies and principles
  2. Excellent organisational skills, including time management, attention to detail, and an ability to work to campaign deadlines
  3. The ability to work effectively with a busy and energetic team of paid staff and volunteers
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  5. Experience presenting training one-to-one as well as to larger groups
  6. Experience in supporting MPs, campaigners, or managers
  7. Experience with digital and social media campaigning
  8. Experience with the Greens online systems (CiviCRM, Rocket, gVIRS)
  9. Excellent IT skills including email, internet, Microsoft Office, and web-based applications and an ability to manipulate data in spreadsheets
  10. Understanding of NSW and Australian political issues and the political system
  11. Experience working or volunteering to support an election, social justice, environment, and/ or community campaign
  12. Essential: A current Working with Children Check or be able to obtain one within first month.  
  13. Essential: a current Drivers License.

Note: Successful applicants must not be a current member of another political party.

PAY AND CONDITIONS

  • Salary: $71, 079.44 pro rata (Step 1), plus 10.5% superannuation
  • Primary Location: The Greens NSW state office, Glebe
  • Hours: This is a part time, 21 hour a week role
  • Status: Contract from 28 February to one week after the federal election (expected to be May 28)
  • Covered by: The Greens NSW Staff Collective Agreement
