The role

GreenCollar is looking for a full-time Field Technician to join our teams working in remote locations across Australia. Our field teams carry out monitoring and biomass surveys for native forest protection and regeneration carbon farming projects. There is potential for the right candidates to be involved in innovative projects as GreenCollar expands into new and exciting environmental markets.

We are looking for suitable candidates who will be involved in undertaking vegetation surveys, field testing and analysis, equipment maintenance and calibration, collecting samples and reporting on data. It is important that all applicants understand that conditions can be mentally and physically challenging at times due to weather and terrain, limited accommodation facilities (camping on-site), driving long distances and off-road, hiking through bush, limited communication in remote areas and close working relationships with other team members. Salary on commencement will be $55,000 per year plus superannuation.

Skills, experience and qualifications required

  • Bachelor/ Honours Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany or related field
  • At least 2 years experience in carrying out monitoring and biomass surveys in the carbon farming sector or in a similar role
  • Extensive experience in undertaking vegetation surveys with excellent flora identification skills and strong knowledge of Australian plants
  • Good level of fitness and the ability to work away from home regularly for extended periods
  • Proven experience to undertake work in remote areas and to be accepting of adverse weather conditions and terrain
  • Demonstrated experience of utilising technology such as GPS mapping system, smart phones and laptop computers
  • Commitment to meticulous recording of data accurately
  • Strong understanding of WH&S requirements and obligations in the field
  • A passion for the environment and sustainability with consistent behaviours to match.
  • Have a positive can-do attitude and the ability to work well in a team
  • Unrestricted Class C drivers licence. Must be able to drive a manual vehicle and have 4WD experience
  • Wilderness or Remote First Aid qualifications
  • Current valid senior first aid and CPR qualifications
  • A willingness to relocate interstate to rural areas, should the need arise
