About Graham House Community Centre

Graham House is a Community Centre providing a range of services for the South Burnett community. The South Burnett is a rural region 200-300 kms north-west of Brisbane. Our main building is in Murgon, one of the small towns in the region.

Some of the programs for which Graham House is funded are a Family Intervention Service, Domestic Violence – Men’s Behaviour Change program and Early Intervention Family Support Service. Five workers across these three programs form our Family Support Team.

Access to psychological assessment and treatment for our clients is very limited in the South Burnett. To try to meet this need, we are looking to engage a registered psychologist who is able to provide child and family psychological services as well as leadership for our Family Support Team.

About the role

This is a new role. Graham House’s goals are to provide face-to-face psychological services for our clients as well as to effectively support our staff. Our psychologist will work with the senior leadership to develop the role so that it achieves these goals.

The clinical focus will be family therapy working with children, adolescents and parents to address issues related to trauma and neglect. Many of our young clients will be exhibiting behavioural and emotional challenges. Some parents and children will have a disability.

The leadership focus will be on providing individual supervision, team development and professional development.

To be considered for this position you must have:

  • Full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA
  • Four or more years relevant clinical experience
  • Eligible to provide services under the Medicare Better Access Initiative. Currently hold or be eligible to hold a Medicare Provider Number.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills, including provision of clinical supervision
  • A strong understanding of Domestic and Family Violence, Trauma and Attachment, Competent Parenting
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and professional development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication
  • Positive Notice Working with Children and Police Check.

Advantageous, but not essential, skills and experience include:

  • Post-graduate qualification in an area related to family therapy
  • The ability to conduct cognitive testing
  • Experience diagnosing ASD, ADHD, Learning Disabilities
  • Knowledge of child and youth mental health
  • The ability to work with couples who have experienced domestic violence in their relationship.
