Options is seeking suitable Mentors to support people with disabilities to develop new skills that prepare them to live more independent and fulfilling lives. Participants come to Options with a range of goals, including wanting to find a job, to cook meals, learning how to use public transport to access community groups and activities and to explore individual interests. Support may include assisting a person in a work environment while they are gaining experience and skills for work, modelling appropriate work place behaviours and encouraging communication.

To be considered for this role you must address the following criteria:

  • Qualification in disability
  • Understand the principle of providing “just enough support”
  • Understand how to support a person to achieve their goals
  • Be highly organised, flexible and reliable (must be available for a minimum of 3 days Mon – Fri)
  • Have good written and verbal skills
  • Have access to the internet and appropriate technology to communicate and record case notes
  • Have the ability to work unsupervised and maintain strong professional boundaries and ethics
  • Be willing to utilise public transport with service users
  • Have a current First Aid certificate
  • Have a current Police Clearance
  • Have a current Working With Children check or be willing to obtain one
  • Have a reliable registered vehicle and a current licence

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience in assisting with independent living in the home and community and public transport training
  • Demonstrated experience of supporting individuals to achieve their goals as outlined in their Plans
  • Understanding of the NDIS and other disability support services
  • Experiencing in sourcing work experience positions
