The Program Lead is responsible for leading the design and implementation of the Future Fit program (details set out below). This includes recruitment and supervision of the program team (youth workers, one other teacher, an artistic designer and any volunteers). They will lead the program design, ensuring the program models the Global Village School educational approach, and targets elements of the digital technologies and literacy components of the Victorian Curriculum. The Program Lead will also play a key role in stakeholder engagement, publicity, and student program enrolment; will oversee the budget and funding acquittals; and will ensure successful delivery of the program aims and objectives.

Global Village School (GVS) is a recently established charity that has a mission to establish an inclusive secondary school. There are currently 6 directors and a committee of 6 volunteers who are working towards achieving this. Our organisation strives to create a restorative, diverse and values-driven staff culture where all employees and volunteers feel safe, respected and trusted.

In Term 1 2021, GVS is running a program called ‘Future Fit’ for approximately 30 Year 6 students from a range of primary schools in Coburg. The program will run full-time for two weeks. It aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of GVS’s education model for various stakeholders, including parents considering enrolling their child in GVS’s future secondary school, primary schools, the Department of Education and Training, and philanthropic and other educational partners. It will also serve as action research for our organisation to refine its school design. The focus of the program will be on the development of digital literacy - students will gather and compile stories and data relating to the learning-from-home experience and make their predictions on the future of education, culminating in a digital storytelling exhibition.

Duties of this role may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the program team of staff and volunteers to deliver the program.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all students and staff. This may include supporting students to de-escalate and having restorative conversations or mediations between students.
  • Lead the design and implementation of the program, including running two planning days, organising program activities/excursions, overseeing the program budget, staff recruitment and pay, developing learning resources and teaching rubrics.
  • Teach lessons and facilitate learning experiences relating to the digital technologies and literacy curriculum.
  • Lead moderation and feedback with staff and students and mark student portfolios and work against the curriculum and teaching rubrics.
  • Oversee engagement stakeholders, including families, schools, student support networks, sponsors and partnership organisations.
