The organisation

The Global EverGreening Alliance is an international NGO which coordinates the development and implementation of massive-scale environmental restoration and sustainable agricultural intensification projects in developing countries around the world. It has 30+ members, including World Vision, Conservation International, the World Resources Institute, the World Agroforestry Centre, CARE International, Catholic Relief Services, and The Nature Conservancy.

Position description

The Global EverGreening Alliance is seeking a Volunteer Graphic Designer to assist the Media & Communications teams in all aspects of internal and external visual content creation and communication.

Hours and Frequency of work

Applicants should be available to volunteer for 15 hours work per week (negotiable) over 2-3 days. Due to a significant part of the organisations work occurring outside normal Australian business hours (to align with international time-zones), the organisation’s core office hours are from 9:30am to 2:30pm, Monday to Thursday, with a high level of flexibility.

Indicative Activities

  • Conceptualise visuals based on requirements
  • Prepare rough drafts and present ideas
  • Develop illustrations, logos and other designs using software or by hand
  • Use the appropriate colors and layouts for each graphic
  • Work with copywriters and creatives to produce final design
  • Test graphics across various media
  • Amend designs after feedback
  • Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand
  • Creating style guides for a wide range of programmes and campaigns

Relevant Skills

  • Interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to engage with colleagues both internally and externally, and with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Time management skills and an ability to prioritise tasks, manage heavy workloads, and meet deadlines
  • Problem-solving skills and an ability to work independently, as well as an effective team member to achieve shared goals
  • Proven graphic designing experience
  • A portfolio of illustrations or other graphics
  • Working knowledge of design software and technologies (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop)
  • A keen eye for aesthetics and details

COVID-19 considerations:

To keep staff and volunteers safe, we are all working from home. When we return to the office, initially, four staff will work from the office each day, surfaces will be cleaned regularly and sanitiser will be available. We will still be mostly working from home.
