Organisation Overview

The Global Evergreening Alliance is an international NGO which coordinates the development and implementation of massive-scale environmental restoration and sustainable agricultural intensification projects in developing countries around the world.

The organisation was established by its members to facilitate a collaborative approach to the global problems of food insecurity, rural poverty, climate change and land degradation, and to develop and implement long-term solutions at a globally significant scale.

Its core members include World Vision, Conservation International, the World Resources Institute, the World Agroforestry Centre, CARE International, Oxfam, JustDiggit, Catholic Relief Services and The Nature Conservancy.

Hours and Frequency of Work

The position requires 8-16 hours per week over 1-3 days. Core working hours are from 9:30am to 2:30pm, Monday to Thursday and there is some flexibility regarding which days the successful applicant chooses to work.

Indicative Activities

  • Support the work of the Monitoring & Data Systems team, including the ongoing development of the organisation’s ArcGIS Monitoring Platform and related tools
  • Coordinate and refine project data from member organisations
  • Input, management, and visualisation of data on ArcGIS Online
  • Support ongoing work on remote sensing – this could include data entry, manual interpretation of maps and sample plots, statistical analyses, imagery stocktake and Google Earth Engine processing

Relevant Skills

  • Interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to engage with colleagues both internally and externally, and with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Time management skills and an ability to prioritise tasks, manage heavy workloads, and meet deadlines
  • Problem-solving skills and an ability to work independently, as well as an effective team member to achieve shared goals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ArcGIS software, Collect Earth or Google Earth Engine preferred
  • Knowledge of carbon accounting, credits and/or offsetting beneficial
  • Relevant training and/or experience in environmental science, conservation, or geography

This is a part-time, volunteer position, working remotely during the Covid-19 crisis and subsequently a combination of working remotely and working from the East Burwood (Melbourne) office.
