Campaign Director

GetUp Limited

GetUp is looking for a Campaigns Director to lead on a diverse mix of high-engagement campaigns.

SCHADS Classification Level 8, salary range $101,527.40 - $105,665,04 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation, determined by relevant experience and qualifications.

This is a 12 month fixed term full-time contract (maternity leave cover) based in Sydney (although we’re in remote working mode at the moment!).

At GetUp, we know our capacity to drive progressive change is increased when our team has a diversity of backgrounds and experience - and especially comes from a background of lived experience on the issues we work on.

Who is GetUp

The GetUp movement is powered by the values and hopes of everyday people. We combine the power of over one million members, movement partners and a central team of expert strategists to make extraordinary impact.

We focus our campaigns on the areas our members care about most in the fields of First Nations Justice, Environmental Justice, Human Rights, Economic Fairness and Democratic Integrity. From making sure hundreds of thousands of people are able to vote in elections, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the Great Barrier Reef, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health – we have a decade-long history of taking on powerful interests, and winning.

Who is the Campaigns Team

GetUp is full of talented campaigners who lead the organisation’s efforts to create a more progressive Australia. The campaigns team prides itself on deep strategic thinking as well as the ability to seize crucial change moments that make a massive difference on our issues.

Their days are filled with analysing the political state of play, developing long-term and rapid-fire strategy, engaging with politicians, media and affected communities, spotting the right moment to intervene, running impactful tactics including everything from protests to undercover investigations, writing hard-hitting copy, and coming up with creative ways to give our members the best chance for impact.

The Campaigns Director is responsible for:

  • Determining and driving impactful campaign strategy in accordance with team goals and organisational strategy;
  • Ensuring high-quality campaign content across all GetUp channels;
  • Rapidly determining appropriate actions in light of the latest news and developments;
  • Ensuring GetUp campaigns are appropriately researched, planned for and evaluated;
  • Achieving team fundraising targets and managing team expenditure;
  • Representing GetUp in the community and media;
  • Leading on engagement strategies with key stakeholders, including political offices, other advocacy organisations and affected communities;
  • Ensuring a strong team culture of experimentation, innovation and evaluation;
  • Managing campaigns teams to success, including setting and monitoring work outcomes.

You will be someone who is or has:

  • Passionate about growing and strengthening a movement of everyday people to take action for change on a wide range of issues;
  • Proven experience testing high-engagement campaigns and moments, running hard at them when they’re hot and dropping them when they’re not;
  • Experience creatively combining online and offline tactics in exciting campaign arcs that get members on the streets and the airwaves, in the media, and influencing political outcomes;
  • Adept at thinking through complex policy ideas and communicating them simply and clearly;
  • Takes the initiative to do what it takes to get the job done, and who thrives in a fast-paced, digitally-savvy office environment;
  • Rapid-fire strategic analysis and good judgement to secure short and mid-term campaign wins;
  • A formidable manager who can coordinate a team to success, celebrate and evaluate, and knows how to support staff with lived experience; and
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in GetUp-style online campaigning including digital fundraising;
  • Experience working in politics or media cycle; and/or
  • Experience writing member-focused communications that drive people to action.

If even a couple of these criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Formal education, qualifications and extensive experience matter less to us than excellence, initiative and drive.

We will start reviewing applications from July 2 so we encourage you to get in quick.
