About Good Cycles

Good Cycles is an independent not-for-profit social enterprise. Our vision is to provide young people at risk of disengagement with employment opportunities that improve their futures.

Good Cycles is building a commercially sustainable retail operation in Geelong. The Geelong shop aims to support Good Cycles’ Transitional Employment Model through the provision of valuable retail experience to supported employees as well as revenue generation to support Good Cycles’ programs.

Good Cycles was established in Geelong in 2018 and now sees an important opportunity to capitalise on opportunities in retail in the Geelong CBD, with a focus on commuter and ebikes, and engaging with the local cycling community.

About the Role

Our mechanics support the operation of our retail store in Geelong, including a full service workshop, retail area for new bikes, parts and accessories, and support the delivery of transitional employment outcomes and key community engagement outcomes including maintenance classes and events.

Working closely with the Geelong Manager and Retail Manager (Melbourne-based) you will support the efficient operation of a high quality bicycle workshop and retail space in central Geelong.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop

• Taking bookings
• Receiving customer bikes and making assessments of work required, providing quotes and timeframes for servicing
• Servicing bikes to a high standard with clear communication to customers
• Cleaning and maintaining workshop space and upholding relevant guidelines on workshop safety
• Coordinating effective workshop operations with Geelong Manager

Retail

• Engaging and assisting customers with purchases and enquiries
• Ensuring stock levels are maintained through on-time ordering and receiving in Vend
• Coordinating effective stock control with Melbourne-based Retail Manager to maintain consistent product range across Good Cycles’ three retail outlets

Additional Responsibilities include:

Community Engagement

• Coordinating, together with the Geelong Manager, a roster of evening maintenance classes to provide the Geelong cycling community with high quality instruction in bicycle maintenance
• Supporting the Geelong Manager in delivery of community events such as Ride2Work Day and other relevant events

Transitional Employment

• Supporting the Geelong Manager in the delivery of transitional employment shifts in the Geelong shop, including providing feedback on supported employee attendance, performance and growth areas for coaching conversations

Skills and Experience

• Professional experience in bicycle mechanics, particularly in a retail setting (essential)
• Experience working with young people (desirable)
• Experience of delivering training to a variety of audiences (desirable)
• Experience with CykelOS workshop booking software and Vend POS software a bonus
• Experience in Indigenous and/or multicultural contexts, youth services and/or social enterprise and skills in languages other than English are valued

1. On time and quality bike servicing
2. Quantity and quality of sales
3. Delivery of classes and community engagement
