The Great Barrier Reef is a unique icon and an irreplaceable ecosystem. It’s the largest living thing on earth and home to thousands of species of marine life, including six of the world’s seven species of marine turtle.
The Great Barrier Reef Foundation is the lead charity for the Reef, driving the immediate change needed for the Reef to survive for future generations. Right now, we have over 60 Reef-saving projects with over 65 project delivery partners. We are the action station for the Reef, bringing together people and science to deliver the world’s largest coral reefs program.
The Foundation is using a co-design approach to develop a fit for purpose and culturally grounded water quality program that will see Traditional Owner water values, training and capacity building, as well as partnership establishment, take priority.
This new Townsville or Cairns based role within the Traditional Owner Partnerships team will develop and maintain strong relationships with Traditional Owners of the Great Barrier Reef and its catchments and assist in developing and managing projects and partnerships across the Water Quality components of the Reef Trust Partnership Agreement. It is expected that the role will experience some evolution as the Water Quality work program progresses.
Reporting to the Senior Program Manager of the Traditional Owner Partnership team, the position will work closely with all members of the team as well as the six members of the Traditional Owner Water Quality Technical Working group to develop and manage various grant projects at different complexities and scales. These grant projects will deliver on Traditional Owner led priorities within the water quality component held within the Reef Trust Partnership and its annual work plans.
A large component of the position will be dedicated project management and monitoring and evaluation of on-ground Water Quality grant projects led by Traditional Owners.
The role is suited to a highly skilled person who has experience working and communicating effectively with Traditional Owners of the Great Barrier Reef and its catchment. The role will deepen the understanding held by Traditional Owners about grant and project opportunities presented under the Water Quality area.
The successful person will need to demonstrate a flexible attitude as well as possess high order interpersonal skills and operate effectively within a small cross-cultural team environment.
Your strong relationship building and negotiation skills will be highly regarded as will your demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals, groups and management
Additionally, you will have an ability to synthesise multiple lines of information and report effectively both verbally and in written form.

This is a chance for an experienced Program Manager to step into an energetic, high performing and innovative team.
This position is an initial two-year contract with potential for a two-year extension.
We will also consider a one-year secondment for exceptional candidates.
Salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate but $85,000 - $90,000 plus superannuation should be used as a guide.
This full-time Townsville or Cairns based role is offered with flexible working arrangements.
