The role

The Program Manager – Water Quality works closely with the Project Director – Water Quality to support delivery, administration, reporting, monitoring & evaluation and engagement for water quality projects.

The Program Manager will engage with, and provide guidance to, individual Water Quality projects to assist with progress and financial reports and ensure alignment with GBRF’s processes and expectations, focusing on contributing to technical water quality matters to deliver on GBRF’s mission and purpose.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing processes for contracting, monitoring, reporting, evaluation and communication for WQ projects
  • Supporting processes for collaborative scoping, design and implementation of projects and frameworks, including planning and implementation of workshops, meetings and mechanisms for two-way information exchange between GBRF and partners
  • Building and maintaining relationships with subgrantees and other stakeholders and partners in relation to the delivery of WQ activities
  • Supporting the design of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and reporting for WQ projects
  • Presenting project outcomes through reports, presentations, briefings and publications for diverse audiences ranging from the general public, through to donors and investors, and the broader research and conservation community
  • Providing support for the WQ Working Group and other advisory or expert groups
  • Engaging effectively with other units within GBRF to support the delivery of relevant contract management, corporate reporting and risk and compliance activities
  • Supporting the translation and adoption of project outcomes in accordance with best practice
  • Providing other support as required

About you

You are passionate about the environment and the Great Barrier Reef and are eager to play a key role in shaping the future of Reef conservation. You have a solid understanding of farmers, their practices and links to water quality and Reef ecological outcomes; as well as the key Reef water quality programs and frameworks.

You are strategic, driven, adaptable and enjoy the challenge of managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment. You are flexible and thrive when working collaboratively across sectors and stakeholders, including the agricultural sector, Australian and State Government departments, NGOs, industry partners, community groups and the scientific community.

Ideally, you will possess:

  • Demonstrated capability in complex project management including excellent organisational skills, synthesising multiple lines of information, strong time management, good written and verbal communications, contract and budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with experts and non-experts to convey science and conservation concepts, as well as share project activities and outcomes in accessible formats suitable for the target audience.
  • Evidence of building and maintaining strong partnerships and networks, including effectively engaging with partners, key government agencies, and Reef industries to support information exchange and progress the collaborative design and delivery of projects.
  • Ability to travel on occasion to support project activities.
  • A degree in education, science communication, social science, and/or environmental science will be well regarded.

Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful candidate but $85,000 - $95,000 plus super should be used as a guide.

The position is for a 2 year maximum term contract in the first instance.

This full-time role is offered with flexible working arrangements and can be based in Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns or Mackay.

Key selection criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of farmers, their practices and links to water quality and Reef ecological outcomes; as well as the key Reef water quality programs and frameworks.
  • Experience in complex project management including managing multiple projects. Your demonstrated capability should include excellent organisational skills, synthesising multiple lines of information, strong time management, and contract and budget management.
  • Experience in managing processes for contracting, monitoring, reporting, evaluation and communication for water quality projects.
