Head of Corporate Services

Great Barrier Reef Foundation

The Great Barrier Reef is a unique icon and an irreplaceable ecosystem. It’s the largest living thing on earth and home to thousands of species of marine life, including six of the world’s seven species of marine turtle.

For over 20 years the Great Barrier Reef Foundation has been the lead charity for the Reef, driving the immediate change needed for the Reef to survive for future generations. Right now, we have over 60 Reef-saving projects with over 65 project delivery partners. We are the action station for the Reef, bringing together people and science to deliver the world’s largest coral reefs program.

The Opportunity

As one of three leaders who work with the Managing Director in an intentionally lean, agile and consultative Executive team, you will be responsible for providing high level strategic and operational oversight of the activities and systems of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.

You will lead the Finance, Information Communication and Technology, People and Culture, Governance and Risk and Compliance units and consolidate a ‘here to help’ culture across all aspects of Corporate Services.

Following an intense period of growth some of our systems, procedures and protocols are still in a maturation phase so there’ll be plenty for you to get your teeth into with your characteristic ‘let’s find a better way’ approach.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to be an experienced business manager whose personal scope extends far beyond the archetypical, by-the-book, bean counter profile. You will have a degree in Business and a demonstrated track record of financial and operations management of a team at a professional level. CA or CPA qualifications are preferable although not essential.

Critical to this role is a demonstrated strong knowledge of corporate governance principles including financial management, strategic planning, risk management, contract management, human resource management, technology management and continuous quality improvement.

The Great Barrier Reef Foundation is the recipient of the largest environmental grant from the government and donations from individuals and partners across the globe and the Head of Corporate services plays a central role in our commitment to the highest level of governance, integrity and transparency and ensuring the Foundation’s behaviour as an Australian charity is respected and trusted.

Where you come from is less important than the capabilities you bring. We’re open to a range of financial backgrounds where you may have been employed in corporate/commercial business, a non-profit organisation (an advantage) or even government, to come up through the ranks to hold leadership- roles such as COO or CFO in sizeable companies.

You will also need roundly developed communication and interpersonal competence that includes fine skills in negotiation, conflict resolution and the power to positively influence others in an environment of reform and change. An easy, helpful manner, a calm, unflappable approach and a ready smile could also prove very useful.

Overall, it will be your proven ability as a self-motivated, proactive and efficient member of a passionate, dedicated and hardworking team that will be of prime importance. As will be your willingness to step outside of the boundaries of your role and - with courage and curiosity - continually search out better ways to enable and support our purpose.
