Gangalidda and Garawa Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (GGNTAC) represents the Gangalidda and Garawa People who hold native title rights interests in land and sea country in the Southern Gulf of Carpentaria, stretching east from the Northern Territory border to the Leichhardt River near Burketown.

Gangalidda & Garawa Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (GGNTAC) provides native title and related services to its members and to the Gangalidda & Garawa native title holders. GGNTAC was established in 2010 to act as agent Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC). Since that time, the Corporation has established a number of wholly owned subsidiaries and businesses.

Initially based in the Cairns Office, we have an exciting new opportunity to join our organisation and support GGNTAC in its economic growth and development.

The Opportunity:

Under direction from the Gangalidda and Garawa Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (GGNTAC) Board of Directors you will be responsible for the initiating the development of identified and planned commercial opportunities, to prioritise the profitability and stability of current opportunities and identify and implement future opportunities.

You will work in collaboration with GGNTAC’s Board of Directors to ensure strategic, economic development and business plans are implemented for economically sustainable business development, operation of Aboriginal owned businesses and employment opportunities for local indigenous people in the Southern Gulf of Carpentaria region.

This position will report to the GGNTAC Chairperson and will ensure that GGNTAC builds on its capability to work toward sustainable self-government and capitalisation on commercial opportunities across a range of industries including Resources, Tourism, Land Management and Service Delivery.

We are looking for the right person to join and lead GGNTAC as the General Manager. This position is responsible for:

  • Provide reports and business papers, high level strategic and operational advice to the GGNTAC Board;
  • Provide guidance and advice to the GGNTAC Board to achieve sustainable business outcomes;
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of the GGNTAC’s 10-year Strategic and 5-year Economic Development and Operational Plans;
  • Ensure strategies are in place to build future indigenous leaders for ongoing success and operations of both established business and new business opportunities.
  • Build on current capabilities of GGNTAC and its associated commercial entities to maximise economic development opportunities on land and waters in which Native Title has been recognised and to develop business plans for future growth and sustainability;
  • Develop Annual Business Plans, monitor progress of annual objectives and control expenditure in accordance with the Board approved budget and annual business plan;
  • Provide strong financial and operational oversight and management of all areas of business of GGNTAC and associated commercial entities and ensure compliance with legislative and relevant accounting standards;
  • Comply and monitor the relevant Legislation and Company Policies, Procedures and standards on Health and Safety at work; and
  • Create a culture of continual development of the Board and staff and support and build the capacity of the organisation to respond to opportunities as they arise and foster best practice business management.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are required to demonstrate that they can:

  1. Tertiary Level Qualification in Business, Economics, Commerce, or equivalent, plus prior experience in a similar managerial role;
  2. Proven ability with business development aligned to financially sustainable economic outcomes and secure employment opportunities involving Indigenous Communities and People;
  3. Demonstrated Risk Management and Compliance experience;
  4. Sound knowledge and understanding of State and Commonwealth economic development strategies and programs, especially for remote Northern Australia;
  5. Ability to undertake clear and concise communication with all stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, Government agencies and the members of the private business sector;
  6. Proven ability to think strategically and creatively to problem solve and to make informed decisions;
  7. Previous experience creating and managing budgets ensuring financial outcomes are achieved;
  8. Experience leading a large and diverse multidisciplinary team;
  9. Ability to manage multiple projects and consult with all stakeholders and community in planning and timelines;
  10. Based on your previous experience in an Economic Development role, what:

What we offer:

The position is a full-time position and may involve regular travel throughout the southern Gulf of Carpentaria region:

  • Salary Range: To be negotiated pending qualifications and experience;
  • GGNTAC is a Private Benevolent Institution: Salary sacrifice arrangements are available;
  • Leave entitlements will include 5 weeks annual leave.
