ABOUT THE POSITION

The NDIS Specialist will aim to make a real difference to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with disabilities.  

The NDIS Specialist will provide direct support to test eligibility, process and submit NDIS access applications, as well as provide capacity building opportunities to other staff within Gallang Place.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Have a solid understanding of the requirements of the NDIS applications process
  • Support the progress of clients in relation to NDIS testing, submission of access requests, planning and/or accessing alternative pathways and follow up with governing bodies in relation to progress of applications and/or adverse decisions.
  • Support clients throughout this process.
  • Actively engage in a regular Community of Practice to share learnings between agencies, as well as participate in the NDIS Escalation Pathway group, with Brisbane South PHN and Carers QLD Local Area Coordinators (LACs)
  • Engage with the National Transition Support Project as appropriate
  • Have experience and understanding of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Formalise access pathways to support services that are tailored to the client's individual circumstances.
  • Ensure service delivery is aligned with cultural practices and the recovery-focused approach.
  • Perform intake and assessment functions and develop Support Plans outlining goals as identified by the client in supporting the individual in their recovery and healing journey
  • Complete all reports in a timely and professional manner.

  • Maintain the professional standards and ethics of Gallang Place, which includes commitment to the Policy and Procedures manual: client confidentiality, client rights, professional development, quality improvement practices and integrity of service delivery (culturally-aware and trauma-informed practices).
  • Ensure regular attendance at team, client, partner and staff meetings 

ABOUT YOU

  • are able to demonstrate relevant experience providing case coordination services
  • have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with a variety of disabilities and complex needs
  • have experience in supporting a client case load, prioritising clients, and managing their time effectively
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with a broad range of clients and partner organisations
  • have experience with different computer and client database systems (eg ProDa) or a willingness to learn.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You will also need:

  • Current driver's license (mandatory)
  • A Yellow card, a Blue card, and to undertake a Criminal History Check.
  • Cert IV in Mental Health (desirable)
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of NDIS
