ABOUT THE POSITION

This is an Identified position to be filled by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders as permitted by and arguable under sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).

The Mental Health (MH) support worker will be delivering our NPSM program - supporting Indigenous clients, aged over 18 years, who are suffering from long term social and mental health issues, and who have not been eligible for the NDIS.

The Mental Health Support Worker must be able to work with a range of services, supports and primary health care providers to coordinate, improve, change and integrate services to deliver what clients need.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Mental Health Support Worker is required to provide a holistic approach to treatment to address the ongoing psychological and social needs of  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their closest supporters; 

  • Support access to support services that are tailored to the client's individual circumstances;
  • Support options for the client and their closest supporters that include one on one peer support or support groups.
  • Perform intake and assessment functions and develop Support Plans outlining goals as identified by the client in supporting the individual in their recovery and healing journey;
  • Maintain the professional standards and ethics of Gallang Place, which includes commitment to the Policy and Procedures manual: client confidentiality, client rights, professional development, quality improvement practices and integrity of service delivery (culturally-aware and trauma-informed practices).
  • Deliver the NPSM Program to ensure service delivery is aligned with cultural practices and the recovery-focused approach.
  • Complete all reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure regular attendance at team and staff meetings

ABOUT YOU

Our ideal candidate: 

  • is able to demonstrate relevant experience providing case coordination services
  • has experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with complex mental health needs
  • is experienced in supporting a client case load, prioritising clients, and managing time.
  • has excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with a broad range of clients and partner organisations
  • has experience with different computer and client database systems (and a willingness to learn)

You will also need:

  • Current driver's license (mandatory)
  • A Yellow card, a Blue card, and to undertake a Criminal History Check.
  • Cert IV in Mental Health (desirable)
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of NDIS
