Galiwin'ku Women's Space Inc. (GWS) is a Yolngu run organisation established by a passionate group of women from Galiwin'ku working towards a solution to domestic and family violence in Galiwin'ku Community, North East Arnhem Land. The organisation operates with a Two Worlds Approach by combining the skills and knowledge both societies, Yolngu and non-Indigenous.

GWS 's vision is to stop the cycle of violence in Galiwin'ku through the provision of crisis management and prevention services, including Crisis Accommodation, that strengthen culture and empower families. GWS is the only organisation focusing on domestic and family violence in the community and are pioneers in developing a unique service model for addressing this community need.

About the role

GWS is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join the team at a crucial time in our organisation’s development. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Galiwin’ku Women’s Space’s case management, community-based services and programs, and future crisis accommodation service to ensure they function in an ethical, effective, and efficient manner.

Currently, GWS is trailing a locally developed case management and outreach service for women and families experiencing domestic and family violence. We are also developing a unique Gurrutu Framework that grounds all our operations and service provision in the Yolngu Kinship system.

In October 2021, all our programs will relocate into a new purpose-built facility in Galiwin’ku that will enable the services to grow and an additional crisis accommodation component to be added. This is the first time the Galiwin'ku Community has had access to specialised domestic and family violence and crisis accommodation services.

The Operations Manager will guide the organisation through this significant growth period period, led by the Executive Officer and Management Committee.

This role will require a skilled communicator and relationship builder with experience in DFV service delivery and an understanding of Yolngu culture and remote living.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the provision of a range of high-quality support services to women and children who have or who are at risk of experiencing Domestic and Family violence.
  • Responsible for managing a small team of full time, part time and casual support workers and project coordinators including rostering for the out of hours components of the service.
  • Oversee the delivery of community programs and events targeting the prevention of domestic and family violence.
  • Develop policies and protocols related to service management and delivery to guide the work of the organisation.
  • Responsible for implementing WHS Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for managing administrative tasks relating to employees and volunteers.
  • Support GWS members and employees with the ongoing development of cultural frameworks and service delivery practices
  • Overseeing the management of delegated financial resources, budgets and assets.
  • Regular communication and reporting to the Executive Officer.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications in community services or related fields are required for role.
  • Working within a cross cultural environment/ organisation.
  • Working with individuals experiencing domestic and family violence at crisis, early intervention and prevention stages.
  • Outstanding ability to interact and connect with people in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
