About the Opportunity

Ravenhall Correctional Centre is seeking a passionate and motivated part-time Speech Pathologist (.6 FTE) to play a pivotal role in supporting Ravenhall’s rehabilitation and reintegration model. The speech pathologist will complete assessments, develop and facilitate individual and group programs with adult male offenders, targeting speech and language disorders and improving communication based social skills competencies. The speech pathologist’s role will be integral in increasing prisoners’ confidence in speech, language, and social skills in order to improve their ability to engage with education, employment and the broader community post-release. The Speech Pathologist will also provide consultation and guidance to the broader clinical programs team and contribute to multidisciplinary case-management plans and reviews, with a focus on maximising the prisoner’s self-efficacy in oral communication.

The Speech Pathologist will:

  • Provide expert speech therapy advice and consultancy to clinical and custodial staff, including the facilitation of training and development for staff in identifying and managing prisoners with social and communication disorders, literacy, language and numeracy difficulties.
  • Assess, diagnose and treat speech, language and communication disorders.
  • Design and implement evidence-based culturally responsive speech pathology and education programs that can be delivered and tailored to a prisoner or group of prisoners, ensuring that the intervention is appropriate and responsive to their needs.
  • Complete assessments, develop and facilitate individual and group programs targeting speech and language disorders, social skills and literacy development.
  • Assist the broader clinical team with the co-facilitation of programs where required.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and professional development opportunities relevant to the speech pathologist’s role.

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in the role of Speech Pathologist at Ravenhall you will have:

  • A tertiary degree qualification in Speech Pathology and registration with Speech Pathology Australia as a practicing member.
  • Two or more years of experience as a registered practitioner completing assessments, individual and group interventions,
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing oral language needs and developing intervention plans.
  • Previous experience providing speech pathology services in an institutional, educational or clinical setting, including administration of diagnostic tests to determine the nature and extent of speech, language, social skills and literacy difficulties/disorders.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing evidence-based speech pathology and education programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others both cross-agency and as part of a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently prepare clinical intervention plans.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment, demonstrating excellent time-management, organisational and negotiation skills.
