Market Forces Research Assistant (voluntary)

Friends of the Earth
  • Location: Australia
  • Supervised by: Research Coordinator

Market Forces believes that the banks, superannuation funds and governments that have custody of our money should use it to protect not damage our environment. Our work exposes the institutions that are financing environmentally destructive projects and help Australians hold these institutions accountable. We work with the community to prevent investment in projects that would harm the environment and drive global warming.

As we seek to further direct investment away from environmentally damaging projects, we need extra help to quantify and evaluate the investments that have already occurred and those actively being pursued. We are looking for a skilled research assistant who cares deeply about environmental issues and is driven to create positive change for the environment from the financial sector. This is an ideal opportunity to develop broad desktop research skills by helping Market Forces with a variety of potential tasks. We are at a point where we would benefit from some research assistance to help maintain the intellectual property that underpins our public campaigns, deliver research briefings and advisories for those seeking to conduct corporate campaigning, and conducting desk-based investigative research to better understand the strategies of campaign targets.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about environmental issues and is motivated by the desire to create positive change for the environment from the financial sector.
  • Has experience working in a campaigning / non-government organisation context.
  • Is skilled and comfortable with data management, and especially proficient in MS Excel and other spreadsheet / database software.
  • Is analytical and curious by nature.
  • Is able to work independently.
  • Ideally has a background in commerce, business, economics or finance (students of these or related disciplines are encouraged to apply).
