Hours and Days: Part Time 30 hours per week / Must be able to work nights and across the weekends. Set consecutive days off to be established.

Supervises: FOH staff members and the host team

Free to Feed is a social enterprise that exists to support people seeking asylum with training and empowering employment opportunities. Free to Feed is affectionately known for its stunning events, grazing tables, cooking classes and a warm, generous community spirit

Free to Feed is at an exciting moment where it is about to launch a charming 800sqm heritage-listed art deco events venue and expand it’s catering and event services into the business and private market (client events, or private celebrations, weddings etc.) as well as continue hosting an array of creative seasonal events and classes.

We are recruiting an experienced Front of House Supervisor to join our team.

Position Summary

The F.O.H supervisor at Free to Feed must be a front of house professional that is passionate about people and generous hospitality.

F.O.H supervisor creates an incredible guest experience representing Free to Feed’s mission and ensures that there is an outstanding hospitality service. Because of the diversity of the role and Free to Feed’s events, the successful candidate should be comfortable in a range of settings including: setting up a grazing table, curating a wine list for the events team, managing front of house at an event, hosting a cooking class, being a cocktail bartender and or providing canape tray service.

The role would suit someone who has experience in restaurant events and functions with the ability to deliver high quality service but is also ready to share that knowledge. You will often be working alongside people seeking asylum who are thirsty for mentoring, training and experience.

This role reports to the Free to Feed Operations Manager but is also in regular contact with the Community and Experiences Manager & Catering & Events Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Front of house service for Free to Feed events, pop ups and external catering events.
  • Brief, supervise and support F.O.H team, providing professional and positive support and guidance.
  • Research and source all wine and other beverages for the venue and create special cocktails for events working alongside the event/sales team!
  • Train and support all front of house staff across all public facing events to ensure consistency in standard and approach
  • Represent the Free to Feed brand and mission through presentations at catering events. Embodying the values, mission and impact of Free to Feed, encouraging inquiry and discussion at events.
  • Create a compassionate and supportive working environment for participants, understanding their additional vulnerabilities and needs and how this might impact on their performance and role.
  • Support hosts in delivery of their duties and through fortnightly feedback meetings.
  • Twice yearly: Run Front of House hospitality training with new participants but week in and week out you will provide mentoring, guidance and training on the job.

Essentials

You will love curating beautiful experiences for our guests and you will be an energetic and welcoming presence. You will also have a high degree of attention to detail to keep up high standards of front of house service and presentation at all events and experiences.

  • Front of house hospitality experience – 3 years min
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Extensive wine and beverage service knowledge
  • Incredible attention to detail and commitment to enlightened hospitality and going that extra 1%
  • Strong desire to create memorable experiences and develop relationships with our guest
  • Knowledgeable, compassionate, patient and possessing the attributes of a good teacher and mentor.
  • Desire to spark thoughtful conversations and advocate for Free to Feed
  • Available for Thursday - Sunday day and evening.

Note: We run a trauma informed program and our frontline staff are supported to work sensitively with people seeking asylum. You are invited to bi monthly reflective practise sessions and are considered as part of the core team. As such, you would need to be connected to our work, mission and values!
