  • Gross Salary Package (Base Salary + Superannuation + Leave Loading): $91,703 - $104,442

Position Overview

The Social Worker supports the development and implementation of high quality and effective social work service models within Family Planning NSW (FPNSW). The position is primarily based at the Metropolitan (Ashfield, Fairfield & Penrith) Clinics and is responsible for the provision of professional, ethical and best practice social work clinical services. This includes undertaking intake, assessment and triage, providing brief counselling and case management and facilitating referrals to appropriate service providers under the principles of prevention and early intervention.

The Social Worker functions from a social justice and human rights framework, applying a biopsychosocial approach to assessment and intervention, in response to complex client presentations arising within a reproductive and sexual health context. The role includes the provision of non-directive pregnancy options counselling. Additionally, the role provides support, training and collaboration with clinicians to support the implementation of the violence, abuse and neglect framework, including routine domestic and family violence & reproductive coercion screening and responding to child protection concerns.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Eligible for membership with Australian Association of Social Work (http://www.aasw.asn.au/membershipinfo/membership-eligibility) and relevant tertiary qualifications (i.e. Bachelor of Social work (4 year degree) minimum)
  • Demonstrated clinical social work skills and experience, including solution focussed counselling, facilitating intake assessments and referrals and ethical record management
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in trauma informed practice and gender based violence
  • Experience working with a diverse client base, particularly people from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, CALD background, people with disability and/or young people
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional conduct, ethical practice, continuous quality improvement processes and adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated success in working in a multidisciplinary clinical setting
  • Ability to manage competing demands and demonstrate flexibility in adapting effectively to change
  • Sound interpersonal, negotiation, written and oral communication skills including advocacy, networking, policy development and report writing skills
  • Sound computer skills, including MS Office applications
  • Current unrestricted NSW Driver’s License and ability to travel throughout greater Sydney and across NSW

Desirable

  • 3+ years previous clinical experience in women’s health, reproductive & sexual health, gender-based violence or other relevant field (such as community health)
  • Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, including approval to provide services under Medicare
  • Experience in the provision of adult education, including workshop facilitation

Other requirements

  • A Criminal Record Check and Working With Children Check are required prior to commencement in this role
  • Immunisation / vaccination requirements apply to this role
