Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne CBD.

Thomas Embling Hospital is a 136 bed secure hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care.

About the role:

The purpose of this position is to provide support and advocacy for female consumers during admission to Thomas Embling Hospital. The Female Specialist Peer Support Worker (FSPSW) will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team on behalf of female consumers and provide assistance to female consumers during their recovery journey. The FSPSW will also work as part of the Lived Experience team.

Duties:

  • Be aware of and address, through focussed practice, inequities faced by female consumers.
  • Sharing recovery strategies and stories based on your own lived experience.
  • Attend clinical reviews and contribute effectively to clinical review processes and team activities.
  • Educating Consumers about communication skills, rights and responsibilities, self-advocacy and recovery.

Skills and experience

  • Experience in a similar designated consumer lived experience role.
  • Qualifications in mental health, or willingness to work towards such.
  • Understand the complex challenges faced by consumers in the Forensic Mental Health system.
  • Must have lived experience as a consumer of mental health services. Considerable experience in a similar designated consumer lived experience role.
