Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne CBD.

About the role:

The Women's Specialist Snr Social Work position plays a key role in the provision of Social Work services for women admitted to the Thomas Embling Hospital, Fairfield. While based on the Barossa Women's acute unit, this role also provides coordination of the SW Women's Community of Practice as well as working with the SW leadership group in practice and service development activities and advocating for the needs of women, their families/carers and others.

Duties:

  • Provides high-level/intensive Social Work services on the Barossa acute unit as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Contributes to SW service development in conjunction with SW leadership group, including supervision and QI improvement activities.
  • As part of the Women's Specialist portfolio, advocates for the needs of women in custodial care.
  • Provides advice, consultation and engages in networking with other agencies and external stakeholders.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated skills and significant experience in forensic mental health/custodial care or related field and a practice interest gender-based and women's-specific mental health or forensic practices.
  • Ability to undertake structured psychosocial and risk assessments as well as plan and deliver targeted interventions, including in individual, group and family work.
  • Has an understanding of relevant legislation, such CMIA, MARAM, Mental Health Act and other frameworks related to consumer recovery
  • Interest/abilities in Social Work practice and service development, including clinical/social work QI activities, interagency projects and research.

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

This position is subject to a Police Check.
