Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community.

These services are delivered through three streams, inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison based services at several locations. This position will be based at Thomas Embling Hospital and will be required to work across all Forensicare sites.

About the role:

As part of the Quality Team, the position will hold a range of portfolios, including quality and safety and accreditation, in accordance with the responsibilities of the team and will be expected to work in strong partnership and collaboration within the team and across the organisation.

Duties:

  • Establish and maintain a quality and safety infrastructure that supports staff to provide Best Care, in accordance with recovery-oriented principles of service provision.
  • Lead the oversight and implementation of key quality processes and systems across the organisation
  • Lead the coordination and reporting of the Victorian Health Incident Management System (VHIMS) RiskMan
  • Deliver effective incident and near miss monitoring, investigation and reporting systems to enhance patient safety
  • Assist with the management of all formal consumer feedback and ensure emerging themes to inform improvement activities
  • Support the Forensicare workforce to embed the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and Justice Health Quality Framework in the provision of care
  • Proactively identify and respond to current and emerging quality, risk and safety issues.
  • Develop and foster strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, with an emphasis on inclusion and collaboration
  • Promote and lead active codesign processes with consumers and carers to improve safety and quality.
  • Coordinate and support the policy and procedure management system that includes the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Promote and embed an understanding of principles and practices of safety and quality across the workforce by providing information that fosters a culture of learning, development, and ongoing improvement supported by education and opportunities for professional development.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Victorian health system, including governance, person-centred care, health literacy, comprehensive care and other key safety and quality issues
  • High-level program policy development experience and experience in research and analysis of policy and data.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess and manage risk, work within legislative requirements, make recommendations and apply specialist advice.

This position is subject to a Police Check.
