Job location

Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.

Completed in 2017, the new medium-security men's prison is located at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, providing world-class forensic mental health services in Victoria in a purpose-built state of the art facility developed to international best practice standards.

About the Role:

  • The role of the Senior Occupational Therapist is to plan, implement, evaluate and document Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment, and undertake required duties as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Provide Occupational Therapy specific assessments and interventions as well as group activities designed to develop/maintain opportunities for engagement in meaningful occupations and skill development
  • The position will act as a leader within the Occupational Therapy Service by contributing to the identification, development and evaluation of improved service delivery and quality initiatives.
  • Support clinical placement education to Occupational Therapy students and provide clinical supervision to other Occupational Therapists, and will also be encouraged to utilise regular discipline-linked supervision and reflective practice

Duties:

  • Assess, interpret and intervene to improve occupational performance through identifying individual needs based on functional deficits and strengths, risk assessment and through promoting occupational choices.
  • Focus on the development of life roles and skills required by patients for community adaptation and integration, including skill development, self-awareness and maintenance of a responsible attitude to time use.
  • Take a leading role within the clinical team on occupational performance issues, functional skill development, and in promoting engagement in meaningful occupations
  • Undertake case coordination or specialist consultation and assessment as required on specific units, consulting appropriately with members of the clinical team
  • Contribute to positive patient outcomes through the use of Occupational Therapy specific assessment and intervention.

About You:

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Highly developed organisational and time management skills.
  • Solid conceptual understanding of evidence based practice including the Model of Human Occupation and be committed to understanding and improving patient functioning through formal assessment and treatment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

What you need:

  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
