Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Completed in 2017, the new medium-security men's prison is located in Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, providing world-class forensic mental health services in Victoria in a purpose-built state of the art facility developed to international best practice standards.

About the role:

The Senior Psychologist provides a high level of clinical psychological expertise to the inpatient unit and undertakes the required responsibilities as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. This role will be based on Tambo- a 10 bed psycho-social rehabilitation unit delivering individual and group based interventions. In addition to this the Senior Psychologist is responsible for the supervision and training of other Psychologists or staff within a program, and will have duties that extend beyond a single ward or program. The Psychologist may provide supervision to postgraduate psychology students and may be involved in scholarly writing and research. As a senior professional representative, the position also provides consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders.

Duties:

  • Provides an advanced range of psychological services including advice on the management and treatment of complex patient issues to other clinicians.
  • Provides specialist psychological, psychometric assessments and reports where necessary.
  • Provides individual and/or group interventions as appropriate.
  • Contributes to patient risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Provides discipline-specific contributions to clinical practice and to program development.
  • Participates in the training and supervision of psychology students and staff of other disciplines where appropriate.
  • Provides expert consultation on psychology related issues within the Hospital and to external clinicians and agencies as appropriate.
  • Contributes to or initiates specialist clinical projects in relation to identified client populations or needs.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Psychologists’ Registration Board of Victoria.
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent or membership of the College of Clinical Psychologists, Australian Psychological Society. OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology or eligibility for membership of the College of Forensic Psychologists, Australian Psychological Society.
  • At least five years experience as a psychologist.
  • Previous working experience in a mental health facility or a forensic mental health service.

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent, OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential
