Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community.

These services are delivered through three streams, inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison based services at several locations. This position will be based at <location> and will be required to work across all Forensicare sites.

About the role:

The Principal Psychology Educator has oversight of the planning, development and implementation of the clinical education and professional development of psychologists employed by the department of Psychological Services at Forensicare. This position has oversight of the clinical supervision program for students/interns and Registrars, and will also have a role in continuing to grow and develop psychology’s education program in accordance with Forensicare’s strategic plan, as well as playing a role in supporting the education initiatives of the organisation more broadly.

Duties:

  • Oversight of the planning, development and management of the clinical education of psychologists employed by Forensicare, in consultation with the Director of Psychological Services.
  • Oversight and coordination of professional supervision of psychologists at Forensicare.
  • The coordination of student placements and strengthening relationships with key Universities that support student placements and internships.
  • The coordination of the Clinical and Forensic Registrar programs.
  • Provision of specialist training on topics related to clinical/forensic psychological practice.
  • Collaborates with other discipline-specific Educators toward strengthening interdisciplinary education initiatives.
  • Engages in quality improvement initiatives that enhance the psychology education program at Forensicare.

Skills and experience:

  • More than 10 years' experience with demonstrated, highly developed clinical leadership skills, extensive postgraduate experience, and recognised professional specialisation.
  • Have demonstrated clinical experience and advanced knowledge to be able to provide education and teach other psychologists and/or students.
  • Extensive postgraduate psychology experience at a senior level in mental health or forensic mental health, or other relevant setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery in a forensic context.
  • Extensive knowledge of the current psychological approaches in working with clients experiencing mental illness within a forensic setting.

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent, OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
  • Endorsement by the Psychologists’ Registration Board of Australia in both clinical and forensic psychology.
  • A Supervisor approved by the Psychology Board of Australia.
