Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. This position is located at the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS) in Clifton Hill, 15 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD. CFMHS is a specialist state-wide agency that works with individuals who have a serious mental health illness and have offended or are at risk of offending.

About the role:

The Forensic Clinical Specialist Program (FCSP) was established in 2010 by the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and involves the employment of forensic specialists within ten Area Mental Health Services (AMHS), with one position based at Forensicare to coordinate the program. The program aims to support the mental health workforce to better assess, treat, manage and support people with severe mental illness who display, or have the potential for violent and/or high risk offending behaviours. The Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the work of the specialists across services, and in contributing to the development of the program. The position works closely with DHHS and other key stakeholders such as AMHS, Community Mental Health Support Services (CMHSS), consumers, and the Criminal Justice System.

As the Program Coordinator you will provide oversight and leadership to ensure a consistent and standardised approach to the Forensic Clinical Specialist positions in keeping with their specialist functions, as well as provide expert secondary consultation to support the AMHS Forensic Clinical Specialists in undertaking complex assessments and development of management plans.

You will also participate in collecting program data and stakeholder feedback and prepare reports accordingly for submission to DHHS.

About you:

You have a demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments and to plan, implement and evaluate clinical interventions. You work effectively with professionals from multi-disciplinary backgrounds and display a commitment to incorporating consumer perspectives and the recovery approach into service delivery.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your high level interpersonal and communications skills including the ability to consult with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

Relevant tertiary qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate Board or Association as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist.
