Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community.

These services are delivered through three streams, inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison based services at several locations. This position will be based at Thomas Embling Hospital in Fairfield and will be required to work across all Forensicare sites.

About the role:

The Chief Health Information Manager manages the Health Information Management Workforce and will be required to provide strategic direction and oversight of Forensicare's management of health information.

This includes oversight of processes, operational compliance, regulatory and legal compliance associated with management of health information, recording, analysis and reporting.

Duties:

  • Lead, develop and maintain strategic and operational Health Information Management systems to support recording, analysis and reporting of clinical care and service delivery activity.
  • Provide proactive and positive leadership, mentoring and support to the Health Information workforce across Forensicare.
  • Provide advice to the Executive on strategic and operational matters to inform quality and safety and regulatory compliance.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience in managing and developing Health Information systems to ensure integrity, quality and safety of care.
  • Experience with the CMI/Rapid system and electronic medical record systems.
  • A thorough understanding of the Freedom of Information Act 1986 and other relevant legislation, as well as processes associated with responding to a summons and/or subpoenas

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent, acceptable for membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia.

This position is subject to a Police Check.
