Fitzroy Legal Service is a community-based organisation, independent of government, dedicated to assisting the most marginalised members of the community with legal information, advice and representation, as well as championing law reform and conducting public interest litigation. Our services are offered across the Cities of Darebin and Yarra, and the inner north of Melbourne. The Darebin Community Legal Centre is a program of the Fitzroy Legal Service. The purpose of the Community Lawyer, Family Law & Family Violence is to provide duty lawyer services as part of the Specialist Family Violence Court (SFVC) at Heidelberg in accordance with the SFVC Operating Model and our funding agreement. The role has responsibility for assisting applicants to make applications for family violence interventions orders; providing early advice and conducting pre-court and between court negotiations, representing clients at court, working collaboratively with other stakeholders at the SFVC; providing casework services for SFVC clients and assisting with community legal education and volunteer training.
Further, the purpose of the position is to provide targeted family law and family violence legal outreach, advice and casework to the LGBTIQ community.
