Foundation for Independence Recreation and Social Training Inc. (F.I.R.S.T.) is seeking motivated and enthusiastic support workers, eager to become part of a dedicated team supporting our service users.

F.I.R.S.T. provides community access across Logan, Brisbane, Bayside and surrounding areas in addition to group support based at our centres in Eagleby and Loganholme.

We are committed to working collaboratively with our service users to provide a personalized, flexible, and innovative service. The role is diverse and includes assisting service users to access a variety of activities within the community, and may include independent living skills, training, and personal care.

Skills and experience required:

  • Genuine interest in supporting people living with a disability.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to recognise individual needs of service users.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to work autonomously.
  • Experience in supporting clients with high physical needs, & requiring PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) feeding.

To apply for the position, the applicant must have:

  • At least 2 years paid work experience as a Disability Support Worker.
  • Certificate III or IV in Disability (or similar) or a willingness to undertake.
  • Current First Aid Certificate and CPR, or willing to obtain one.
  • Current QLD driver’s license.
  • Own vehicle with comprehensive car insurance.
  • Smart phone for accessing roster and email.
  • Blue Card and Yellow Card or willingness to obtain (F.I.R.S.T. can assist you with this).
  • Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’ certificate.

Some positions also require:

  • Non-violent crisis intervention training.
  • Experience supporting clients with challenging behaviour.
  • Seizure, epilepsy, and Midazolam training/experience.
