ABOUT FIGHTING CHANCE & AVENUE:

Fighting Chance designs, builds and scales social enterprises which move the dial for Australians with disability and their family. We work to identify the challenges, hurdles and barriers faced by people with disability in their everyday lives and then design and build sustainable social enterprise businesses to bridge these gaps. Avenue is one of these enterprises.

We are a series of Co-Working Spaces for people of all abilities, regardless of their support needs; working to a vision for a world in which work is accessible for all. Our mission is to build a network of co-working spaces, bringing world-class work, social and learning opportunities to people of all abilities. Each Co-Working Space offers people with disability the opportunity to:

  • Work: Avenue forms and facilitates micro-enterprises to enable participants to utilise their skills and contribute to the economy
  • Learn: Avenue offers participants a range of learning and skill development opportunities, across a range of content areas including work skills, social skills and personal development
  • Socialise: Avenue offer participants the opportunity to engage actively and meaningfully in social aspects of community life and develop friendships

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Senior Support Worker will join our Social Coordination Team, leading our social offerings on Friday and Saturday. The Senior Support Worker is responsible for taking initiative, solving problems to ensure the best support is provided to our Participants and, providing leadership and stability for Support Workers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, communicating and executing the Social program
  • Providing all aspects of personal care, mealtime assistance and behavioural management
  • Deeply understand each participant’s social goals and support needs
  • Being the secondary contact for participant’s families and primary carers
  • Leading, supporting, and building team culture with Support Workers
  • Administration and reporting
  • Leading and/or proactively contributing to daily debriefs

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work and communicate effectively with people we support, their families, community and other networks
  • Experience in event/activity planning
  • Ability to be creative and take initiative
  • Highly developed administrative and organisational skills
  • A passion for (and/or experience with) working with people with disability

REQUIRED TO:

  • Have the right to work in Australia
  • Be available to work Friday & Saturday
  • Possess a current satisfactory National Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Possess Provide First Aid (HLTAID003)
  • Possess a current unrestricted NSW driver's licence, with the ability and willingness to use your personal vehicle for work purposes
