Fighting Chance designs, builds and scales social enterprises which move the dial for Australians with disability and their family. We work to identify the challenges, hurdles and barriers faced by people with disability in their everyday lives and then design and build sustainable social enterprise businesses to bridge these gaps. The role of Lead Senior Support Worker is a direct support role, working to deliver the Avenue program to participants with disability on a day-to-day basis. The heart of this role is providing high-quality direct support, often of a complex nature, and assisting and empowering participants to engage in and complete their daily tasks.

Lead Senior Support Workers within the Avenue setting work under general/limited supervision, within the context of Avenue’s well-established frameworks and processes, with support being on-hand from Team Coordinators and other managers. Lead Senior Support Workers are expected to apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired from their training and/or experience to provide an excellent quality of supports to participants at all times (including complex supports in some cases), manage their own time and work, and provide assistance to more junior staff on occasion, reflective of a collaborative and supportive work environment.


  • Direct Support
  • Administration and Reporting
  • Provide high-quality direct support to the person or small group of participants they are supporting through the day.
  • Provide complex behaviour support to participants with high/complex support needs, as well as undertake additional training and development as needed to support such participants to thrive.
  • At times, provide assistance to lower-classified Support Workers in the team to be able to deliver high-quality direct supports at all times
  • Use a creative approach, exercise judgment and use initiative to “think outside the box” about how to deliver support to participants so they are enabled to reach their goals.
  • Apply the principles of active support at all times.
  • Provide direct verbal feedback to families about supports provided and daily progress towards goals, as requested.


  • A passion for supporting others and helping people with disability to achieve their full potential.
  • A passion to move the dial and do things differently within the disability sector.
  • Basic time management, judgement and initiative skillS.
  • Ability to follow clearly defined policies and procedures.
  • Basic numeracy, written and verbal communication skills sufficient to undertake support work and communicate with team members, their families and members of the public.
  • Knowledge of relevant support techniques, such as behaviour support techniques.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use programs such as G-Suite and a CMS system with training and support.
  • Total commitment to the value and, behaviour and culture of Avenue and Fighting Chance.


  • A Certificate III, IV or Diploma in Disability, and/or 3 years’ relevant experience required.


  • Have the right to work in Australia
  • Possess or be willing to obtain a current satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate and Working with Children Check
  • Possess or be willing to obtain Provide First Aid (HLTAID003)
