Background to position:

Femili PNG is a Papua New Guinean NGO that runs case management centres (CMCs) in Port Moresby and Lae to deliver services to survivors of family and sexual violence. The Lae CMC opened in July 2014 and the Port Moresby CMC (as part of the Bel Isi initiative) in September 2018.

Femili PNG is supported by the Australian Government in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea as part of the Pacific Women Shaping Pacific Development program, as well as the UN Spotlight Initiative and other donors.

Femili PNG is also supported by Friends of Femili PNG, an Australian NGO and ACFID member that raises funds and provides technical assistance to Femili PNG.

The Fundraising Officer (FO) will work to develop and implement strategies for fundraising in Australia and PNG. The FO is a new role to expand the fundraising capacity of Friends of Femili PNG in Australia and Femili PNG in PNG.

The position:

Friends of Femili PNG is seeking a fundraiser looking to make a real difference to survivors of family and sexual violence in PNG.

The FO position is based in Canberra and may involve travel to PNG in the future. The position will report to the Friends of Femili PNG CEO (who is also the Femili PNG Development Manager) and will work with other members of the organisation, depending on the issue at hand.

The position may be filled on a full-time or part-time basis and will be initially available for 24 months, with an option to extend subject to success. The position will be reviewed after this initial period.

Roles/responsibilities of the FO:

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies in Australia and PNG to achieve agreed fundraising targets.
  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of Femili PNG’s fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Identify and engage with potential donors, including relevant philanthropic foundations.
  • Stakeholder management with partner organisations and donors.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase donor giving, bequests, and workplace giving, through building and maintaining relationships.
  • Develop communications and marketing collateral in conjunction with the Femili PNG Communications Officer.
  • Promote events and fundraising opportunities through media, social media and other communications and marketing collateral.

Selection criteria:

The ideal candidate for the FO position would have:

  • Experience in fundraising in a not-for-profit context.
  • Project management expertise – preferably in managing events.
  • Persuasive written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and partnership negotiation skills.
  • The ability to work independently and meet set KPIs.
  • Knowledge of communications and marketing.
  • Commitment to the objectives and values of Femili PNG.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively and flexibly as part of a diverse, geographically remote team as well as with external stakeholders.

Terms and conditions:

This is a salaried position, with superannuation and access to salary packaging.
