FEDERATION OF VICTORIAN TRADITIONAL OWNER CORPORATIONS

The Federation is the Victorian state-wide body that convenes and advocates for the rights and interests of Traditional Owners while progressing wider social, economic, environmental, and cultural objectives. We support the progress of agreement-making and participation in decision-making to enhance the authority of Traditional Owner Corporations on behalf of their communities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In conjunction with Traditional Owners, collaborate with government, industry, E-NGO and academic stakeholders to increase and enhance Traditional Owner participation in the management of natural resources. The position will play a key advisory and developmental role within the Federation to assist Traditional Owner groups in the pursuit of legislative, policy, and program reform in accordance with the principles of self-determination.

Key Competencies

  • Demonstrated relationships within the Victorian Aboriginal community and knowledge and understanding of the political, social and economic issues affecting Aboriginal Victorians and experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal people.
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: natural resource management in cross-cultural environments; participatory planning, policy and strategy development; and land management planning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local government legislation, policies, strategies and programs relevant to natural resource management.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders from government, industry and community sectors.
  • Ability to manage consultants, broker services and co-ordinate networks.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to work with, mentor and assist other team members
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of complex tasks independent of supervision
  • Project management capability
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to travel, including for some weekend work.
  • A current driver’s licence.
