The Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations is the Victorian state-wide body that advocates for the rights and interests of Traditional Owners, whilst progressing social, economic, environmental, and cultural objectives. We support the progress of agreement-making and participation in decision-making, to enhance the authority of Traditional Owner Corporations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the CEO, you will provide leadership to a team of 5 staff supporting Victorian Traditional Owners in the delivery of policy and program advice and advocacy in relation to natural resource management and economic development.

Some of your activities will include:

  • Working collaboratively to deliver strategic outcomes in Natural Resource Management (NRM) and economic development, whilst supporting Treaty and nation-building activities
  • Providing specialist advice on a range of NRM and economic matters that support the rights and interests of Traditional Owners
  • Supporting the NRM&ED team to manage relationships with key stakeholders and representing the Federation in government, industry, and Traditional Owner Community forums
  • Seeking additional funding and service opportunities to strengthen the Federation’s income generation
  • Managing budgets and providing oversight of relevant contracts and projects
  • Preparing high quality briefs, submissions and presentations for Federation Board members, corporation CEOs, and government or non-government partners

ABOUT YOU

As our new Natural Resource Management and Economic Development Manager, you have the following skills/experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: policy and strategy development; land management and NRM; participatory planning in cross cultural environments; business management and economic development; community development.
  • Knowledge of policy co-design and advice; policy advocacy, program co-design and project management
  • Knowledge and understanding of the political, social, and economic issues affecting Victorian Traditional Owners and the ability to work collaboratively with Aboriginal people
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with a range stakeholder from government, industry and community sectors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience in the development of reports, research and advice
