ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN MULTICULTURAL HEALTH COLLABORATIVE

The Collaborative is an initiative of FECCA but has its own identity and branding. It has been established to fill a gap in national advocacy about broad multicultural health issues, including systemic racism and demonstrated health inequities which, although highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, have remained substantially unaddressed for decades.

The Collaborative is representative and its membership includes: consumers; health and wellbeing/social care services and practitioners; researchers and research organisations. The development of the Collaborative is guided by an Interim Coordination Group which is reflective of the membership and meets on a regular basis.

ABOUT FECCA

The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) is the national peak body representing people from multicultural communities and their organisations across Australia. Through the membership of state, territory, and regional councils, we represent over 1,500 community organisations and their members. For over 40 years, FECCA has proudly worked alongside culturally and linguistically diverse communities, the broader Australian society and the Commonwealth government to build an inclusive multicultural Australia.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director position is a new role for the newly established Australian Multicultural Health Collaborative, an initiative of the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia.

This is a unique leadership opportunity to bring your passion, skills and experience to lead a new national initiative to advocate for improvements in the health and wellbeing of Australia’s culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse individuals and communities.

You will work with a team of professional and passionate individuals, to build the Collaborative from the ground up in partnership with the management board.

The successful candidate will be strategic, proactive, collaborative, and hands-on with strong communication skills. You are a self-driven problem solver who thrives on the challenge of delivering results and actively seeks opportunities.

OBJECTIVES

• Lead the establishment and evolution of the Collaborative
• Bring experience and passion for multicultural health
• Lead the identification of health and wellbeing issues impacting people from culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse backgrounds, development of solutions and provision of high-level policy advice
• Contribute to the work of the FECCA Health and Ageing Policy Team

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic:

• Lead the establishment and evolution of the Multicultural Health Collaborative to address systemic racism and health inequities in our health system for CALD communities.
• Maintain strategic partnerships and relationships with CALD health consumers and organisations supporting them, CALD health and social care services, practitioners, researchers and research organisations, governments, and any other relevant public and private sector and community organisations to collaboratively achieve objectives.

Operational:

• Manage the provision of support and secretariat services to the Collaborative Coordination Group
• Coordinate research, analysis and policy development on health issues impacting people from CALD backgrounds.
• Coordinate regular and routine consultations with Collaborative members, partners, and stakeholders together with other consultations on specific issues with relevant organisations.
• Oversight the preparation of Collaborative submissions to both government and non-government inquiries and policy reviews.
• Provide high level and knowledgeable advice to the Collaborative on emerging Multicultural Health issues, together with proposed approaches to these issues.
• Oversight the promotion of the Collaborative (website, social media, e-news and other products).
• Manage the efficient administration of the Collaborative.

• Engaging, collaborating and negotiating with a large group of stakeholders from a variety of settings, community organisations and groups.
• Communicating confidently and proactively at all levels.
• Managing a number of projects and deadlines simultaneously.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Criteria:

• Tertiary qualification or experience in a field related to social, health or public policy
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to adapt to the needs of a range of audiences
• Demonstrated understanding or lived experience of issues of importance to people from CALD backgrounds
• Experience working on social policy programs, or health or aged care service delivery in CALD contexts
• Analytical skills and demonstrated ability to produce and/or analyse quantitative and qualitative data to develop high-quality reports and advocacy materials and to inform policy.
• Demonstrated experience in project implementation, monitoring and evaluation
• Demonstrated success in conducting and reporting on targeted and general consultation processes
• Excellent administrative skills and experience to provide secretariat services to the Collaborative and lead/coordinate the establishment of the Collaborative.
• Ability to work professionally as part of a team in a positive and supportive manner
• Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment, highly self-motivated, self-driven and flexible.

Desired Criteria:

• Successfully led and managed health related advocacy bodies
• Demonstrated understanding or lived experience of issues impacting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
• Previous experience in multicultural advocacy/lobbying, or multicultural community engagement and outreach.
• Demonstrated understanding of principles of community engagement and co-design.
• Good understanding of the machinery of government and how to influence
• Experience managing staff
