Financial counsellors provide free information, support and advocacy to Victorians in financial difficulty, and assist over 60,000 people annually. Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic) is the peak body and professional association for financial counsellors in Victoria. As the peak body, FCVic plays a significant role as an advocate for the work of the sector, and for clients of financial counsellors.

FCVic has received funding from the Department of Health and Human Services to build knowledge within the professional workforce, including health, legal and social work professionals about financial counselling and ways to work collaboratively. This will enrich the understanding about integrated ways of working that will improve early identification and prevention of elder abuse. The project is now in its second year.

THE ROLE

The Project Lead will continue FCVic's work that aims to develop financial counselling as a part of addressing and preventing elder abuse. The position reports to the FCVic Executive Officer. A component of the project involves an independent evaluator, and the Project Lead will be expected manage this evaluation work as an aspect of the project.

The Project Lead will be able to:

  • Manage development of educational and communication tools about financial counselling in an elder abuse prevention context for community information
  • Manage development of online learning tools for financial counsellors on working with older persons and elder abuse issues
  • Establish and develop a community of practice amongst financial counsellors engaged in elder abuse related practice
  • Develop relationships with all 10 Victorian Elder Abuse Prevention Networks (EAPNs)
  • Educate a range of professionals and consumers/community members about financial counselling and its role in preventing and/or mitigating elder abuse.

A summary description of the project and a breakdown of the deliverables can be found below. The deliverables for the project will be due within 6 months of the position commencing.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential competencies

  • High Level project management skills, including ability to deliver evaluation, reporting, and milestone requirements
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to conduct presentations for a range of audiences, and network with a range of organisations and people
  • Well developed adult learning/educational skills applicable in community and/or professional contexts
  • Leadership skills applicable to developing a community of practice
  • Ability to manage relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to order priorities and manage competing demands effectively.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Experience in a government funded project lead role
  • Diploma of financial counselling/a strong understanding of the financial counselling sector and principles of community development

Desirable

  • Familiarity with elder abuse issues in a financial counselling context
  • Experience with conducting community outreach and educational programs
  • Experience integrating financial counselling work into health or aged care related services

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The position is for a term of 6 months (March – August 2020), at 30.4 hours/4 days per week (0.8) of a full-time position. We offer a competitive salary, based on a full-time rate range of $92,975 and $96,860 (pro rata), plus not-for-profit salary packaging benefits, and superannuation.
