About Us

The Federation of Community Legal Centres (the Federation) is a fast-paced and dynamic organisation that seeks to create a fairer Victoria for all members of our community. We are the peak body for Victoria’s Community Legal Centres (CLCs), who are at the forefront of helping those facing economic, cultural or social disadvantage and whose life circumstances are severely affected by legal challenges.

For 50 years, CLCs have been part of a powerful movement for social change, reshaping how people access justice, creating stronger, more equitable laws, and more accountable government and democracy.

Our vision is for a community that is fair, inclusive and thriving, where every person belongs and can learn, grow, heal, participate and be heard.

We work with CLCs by enabling a strong collective voice for justice and equality; mobilising and leading strategic, well-coordinated advocacy campaigns; leading and supporting ongoing learning and evaluation across the sector; and driving creativity and excellence in delivering legal services to communities.

Our workplace is flexible and rewarding for those who can see the bigger picture and who are comfortable working with multiple stakeholders across a range of social issues. We focus on delivering impact and outcomes, we celebrate collective success, and we encourage ongoing learning.

Our staff are driven, collaborative, solution-focused and adaptable. But most of all we share a strong commitment to social justice.

About the role

You will deliver a strategic communications plan that positions the Federation and the community legal sector on the frontline of social justice and equality in Victoria.

You will act as a key adviser internally, enabling the CEO and senior management team through the provision of strategic advice and guidance to support priorities, initiatives and opportunities.

You will work collaboratively across the Federation team to support our policy positions and submissions - framing complex issues and developing compelling messages that support change.

You will oversee and optimise the Federation’s online presence, ensuring digital communications support and deliver our strategic advocacy priorities.

A usual day in this role might see you collaborating with our policy team to develop a communications plan to support our state budget submission, writing a media release in response to a change to legislation which CLCs have been advocating for, briefing our CEO on key messages for a radio interview, or convening an upcoming member Communications Network meeting.

This role is a real opportunity to shape the story for a whole sector and to bring the stories of our 46 member CLCs to policy makers, funders and the public in new ways.

About you

You’re a communications specialist who is passionate about making an impact. You understand how to position an organisation within its political, legal and social environment to ensure messaging is contemporary, persuasive and powerful.

You have broad experience in communications and are able to provide advice on engaging media, advocacy and digital communications. With a passion for social justice and making the world a better place, you will enable us through driving and delivering our communications priorities.
