About FARE

The Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) is a not-for-profit organisation working towards an Australia that is free from alcohol harm. We approach this through community engagement, public education, and advocacy campaigns, that are informed by research.

FARE has a new leadership team and an ambitious agenda that will see the organisation undertake significant change over the next two years in order to tackle bold new projects. If you want to be part of a team working on nation-wide policy solutions, undertaking advocacy at national, state and territory levels, and giving a voice to communities — this job is for you.

As Senior Policy Advisor you will be part of an agile and effective policy and research team, that works to ensure decision makers enact policies that put the health and wellbeing of Australians first. Your role will engage with communities, decision makers and experts to develop, analyse and implement positive policy solutions.

What you will work on

  • Analysing and researching emerging areas of policy concern.
  • Developing innovative and evidence-based policy solutions in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Drafting high quality written materials including policy positions, reports, and submissions to government.
  • Providing expert advice and support to guide the delivery of consistent and effective high-quality policy outcomes.
  • Contributing to the development of advocacy strategies.
  • Working collaboratively with purpose aligned individuals and organisations.
  • Monitoring subject areas to identify and respond to emerging issues.

What you will bring to the team

  • Passion for improving the health and wellbeing of communities.
  • Strong communication skills, including fluency in a variety of written forms and persuasive verbal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and synthesise evidence.
  • Understanding of policy development processes.
  • Strong planning and negotiation skills, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in community or health policy coupled with relevant tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience.
  • A can do attitude and enthusiasm to work as part of a small and productive team.
